Mad Max

I was surprised that I'd never seen this movie before, but now that I've seen it I can say it's largely forgettable. Basically it is a car chase movie in which Mel Gibson plays Regular Max, a cop "A Few Years From Now..." who has to deal with gangs of punks and bikers. Then they kill his family and he turns into Mad Max and gets revenge. It's really well directed and looks amazing, especially considering it was an indie film, but the pacing is all askew and the movie has absolutely no direction until the last half hour or so. Anyway, if you like car chases there are a few good ones, and Mel Gibson is way baby face and says zero antisemitic things which is a plus.

RATING: 52%

We were underwhelmed by Mad Max as well. I'll still probably give the sequels a shot.

Those days are past now.
And in the past they must remain.

Hi everybody. I sang Bitch and Nobody Does It Better and then a bunch of duets with my office mate.

Meanwhile, I LOVED Mad Max. That's when Mel Gibson was still, well, like the hot guy in The Year of Living Dangerously.

Hey McTavish? Why are you a dog in an outfit? What's that all about anyway?

I'm home here all alone by myself with nothing to do but ponder these eternal questions.

Want to go for a Bud Light, McTavish?

What you should keep in mind about Mad Max is that it predicts the lawlessness that the world is heading toward. The government is spending an UNPRECEDENTED amount of money WE DON'T HAVE. Where do you think that value comes from? Money used to be tied to actual silver and gold, but now it is just meaningless. We had our chance last year to vote Ron Paul. Now that "WE'RE ALL SOCIALISTS" according to Newsweek, I suggest y'all keep a gun under your pillow for when unemployment skyrockets and criminals really are roving the streets like this movie so aptly predicted. Cheers.

Meh, the sequels are better. You are right that the narrative is kinda lost until it becomes a revenge story.

Abolishing the gold standard was a good idea-- it can't keep up with the value generated by informational transactions, services, etc. The problem isn't that an information economy is bad or meaningless, it's that we've been doing it wrong and assigning value to worthless things.

I think this stimulus package could go either way--it depends on if people see it as a kind of surgery or chemotherapy, i.e. an invasive, dangerous emergency measure that might just buy the economy some time to save its own life, or if they see it as Big Government finally giving everyone the handouts they deserve. Unfortunately, the better it works in the short term, the more people will probably think the latter, and the worse the long term consequences will probably be.

Oh no, R3 has been invaded by Paultards!

Who is LD? Larry David?

John said...

Paultards or no, the libertarians have never sent anyone to the gulag or rigged up a van with the tailpipe on the inside.

Paultards, Laurie? That's precisely the kind of Obamania I expect from you socialists. Don't expect me to protect you when things go really south. John, There's no way this Welfare society is going to see the so-called "stimulus" as anything other than what they "DESERVE." Sure, just take MY MONEY so you can buy your (c)rap CDs. That's what you DESERVE. There's still hope in 2012.

Is this for real? Who is that guy? And what about a van with the tailpipe inside? Also, I'm fairly certain that in a few years I will be paying more into "welfare" than anyone here. So suck on that.

You know, John from Canada really brings up some good points... if only there were a way to keep minorities and lazybugs away from this Stimulous money...

LipstickMom, you're on fire tonight.

But I'm not racist. And I'm pretty lazy myself.

John, I'm with you about not being racist. I'm an equal opportunity hater.

Oh, you all misunderstood me! I'm not racist. I dated a Latin man once (oo la la!) and one time my son dated a black (we both agreed it would be best for him to find someone more... his speed...)
