The Terror

A mysterious woman lures a young soldier to the Castle von Leppe. The castle holds many secrets. I'm not sure how else to explain it. The Terror isn't really a plot-heavy movie. Most of the film was shot over a couple of days on the set of The Raven. They didn't have much of a script to work from, so a lot of the movie is just characters walking around the castle. Several directors filmed additional scenes for the movie with Roger Corman tying everything together at the end. Well, I mean, he tried to tie it all together. An attempt was made. We can all agree on that.

Apocalypse Now

#23 on Glenn's Top 100 Movie List

This is a movie about how war is bad and we shouldn't go to war. Just kidding - it's obviously a very complex film filled with characters who discover that whatever morality they thought they possessed needs to be discarded or revised because of their environment. I know everybody's probably seen this movie, but I want to mention that I got the chance to see the Redux cut in the theater back in 2001, and even though that edit is pretty pointless, the movie is the most visually gorgeous I've ever seen in the movie theater. So see it in a theater if you can, or go spend all your cash on one of those 100 inch HDTVs, Professor Moneybags.

The Conversation

#50 on Glenn's Top 100 Movie List

This guy Coppola was totally on fire in the 70s. I really like a lot of his stuff from the 80s, too, but mostly he kind of fell apart. Too bad Youth Without Youth never came out here in the theater. Anyway, this movie is great and about some surveillance dude played by Gene Hackman with a mustache. Protagonists usually don't have mustaches anymore, have you noticed? Ah well! Maybe in the next decade they'll make a comeback, says Tom Skerritt.

Bram Stoker's Dracula

#59 on Glenn's Top 100 Movie List

Let's just put aside the fact that Keanu Reeves is a horrible actor and his accent in this movie is fucking ridiculous. There is still a pretty huge number of purely creepy moments in this movie than most other scary movies. Like when Dracula's shadow does some creepy shit? Or when the drops from the perfume bottle drip upward in a highly creepy way? Or when they have to cut off Count Dracula's creepy head? Ooops, spoilers. Don't worry. He comes back to life for Dracula: Dead And Loving It.

The Cotton Club

#66 on Glenn's Top 100 Movie List

As a former trumpet player (and when I saw this for the first time I still thought I would always play) I think this movie is a great jazz/gangster movie. I am not a former gangster, though, so what do I know, since apparently it was a huge box office flop. Well, they can't all be winners.

The Godfather parts I and II

#73 on Glenn's Top 100 Movie List

Well, duh. You know, Coppola was really on his "A" game until he made the Godfather Part III in 1990. I mean (and some of these will show up on this list) The Godfather I and II, The Conversation, Apocalypse Now, The Cotton Club, Rumble Fish, The Outsiders, Peggy Sue Got Married, then BAM! He makes that awful piece of garbage in 1990 and everything goes down hill. Well, after Bram Stoker's Dracula. I love that movie. And to be fair I've never seen Jack or The Rainmaker. They just sound bad to me. But that was like 12 years ago. Come on, Francis! Get one of your nephews to lend you some money already and make another fucking great movie. Anyway, I just watched part II again the other day, and I have to admit that I might change my opinion about liking part I better. But I guess it's kind of like saying you like a juicy steak better than a veal cutlet. Both are pretty delicious and great. The Godfather III is Chef Boyardee ravioli in a can. (See? At least I said it was brand name.)
