Ring by Glasser

One thing I like in songs is when all of a sudden in the middle of a regular old song BAM it's a robot voice. In that regard, this album does not disappoint. Also, in every other regard it does not disappoint either. It's more dance music, but I don't feel too old to listen to it this time because it sounds really dire, or maybe my stereo was turned up really loud. Either way, it definitely works. Also check out their blog - she seems lonely.

EVOL by Sonic Youth

This was Sonic Youth's first album with its lineup of the past quarter century. Listening to it always reminds me of band trips, or riding the bus to school, since I think it was only the third Sonic Youth album I bought. It's a pretty great album, but too bad I can't listen to it without being reminded that Sonic Youth appeared on Gossip Girl to play an acoustic version of "Star Power" from this album. Ow, my childhood!

La Roux by La Roux

I've found that a lot of radio pop lately has been employing common late 90s electronic music moves that I would have loved back when I tracked, which is cool but also embarrassing because if I pick somebody up in my car and I'm blasting this or Nelly Furtado it's tough to come up with excuses. Well, as for La Roux, the 80s-style synthpop and charming androgyny of this group is extremely catchy. That's my excuse? Um.

Gossip Girl Season Two Premiere

This show was my guilty pleasure all through last year. I technically had work while the new episodes were broadcast, so I made an art out of getting out early to try & catch at least the last ten minutes. I have been waiting all! summer! for this premiere. After watching, I remembered something crucial that my summer of nostalgia for GG made me forget: the show is never as good as I want it to be. I want to be freaking SCANDALIZED everytime I watch this show, but it's often plagued by more valleys than peaks. A lot sort of happened in the season premiere, but a lot of new storylines were inserted and it's going to take me a little while to warm up and care about them. And can we please not have this show be about mentorship? Whether you're a an aspiring writer or a designer's peon, I really don't care about how it's going at work. I care about how you're going to viciously plot against all the other rich little scions in your world. So get to it, gang!
