Dressed to Kill

A sexually frustrated housewife attempts to seduce her therapist. After he turns her down, she picks up a guy at an art galley. Unfortunately, she soon finds out that he has a serious case of VD. She doesn't have a lot of time to fret over it though, as she gets hacked to death with a straight razor in the elevator of the guy's apartment building. So then it's up to her son and a prostitute who witnessed the murder to find the killer. I guess there's a lot of people out there who hated this movie when it first came out, calling it overly violent and misogynistic. Nowadays, a lot of people would probably hate this movie because of its less than PC handling of sexuality and gender dynamics. Personally, I'm not one to let dated attitudes stand in the way of a good murder mystery.

Carrie

As everybody knows, Carrie is the story of this girl who gets made fun of and has a crazy religious mother. Then she goes to prom with this nice boy and everybody finally accepts her except for three or four douche laroues who dump pig blood on her, which makes her go all telekinetic Columbine on the whole school. I guess the lesson is either don't make fun of people or don't let people get on your nerves, I'm not sure which. It's hard to review this movie because it set the tone for a million horror movie/Stephen King cliches, but I guess it's pretty good, 1970s split screen and all.

The Fury

A Month Of Halloweenie Reviews #21

The Fury is basically Carrie if it wasn't a horror movie (thanks for lying again, Netflix!), but rather a thriller in which some people have supernatural powers. In fact, it's very similar to Scanners, even down to the telekenetic kids being able to make people explode in various ways. Hrm. It kind of sucks, but if you want to check out a topless sixty year-old Kirk Douglas, this is the movie for you.
