Franklin D. Roosevelt

It might surprise some people that the symbol of modern American liberalism is my favorite President. And sure, I hate bureaucracy like every other good American, but there's obviously major points for the President who led the country through the Great Depression and WWII. Points off, however, for the Japanese internment and his slow response to the German extermination camps. Look at that guy, though, what a stud. I love him.

I bet all those lives lost at Pearl Harbor (my uncle included) would have liked to have known about the "not so sneak Japanese attack" that the President kept quiet about and used to get the U.S. into the war and away from its isolationist stance.

It was also the extrene productivity (and job creation--millions of employed soldiers and even women now back at home) of WWII that pulled the U.S. out of the Great Depression.

If only we had the media of today back then. I wonder how he would have coped with it. Most people then did not know his body was disabled while his mind was more than able.
