The Black Cat (1981)

After some young people go missing, Inspector Gorley from Scotland Yard arrives in a small English village to investigate. With the help of Jill, an American photographer, Gorley starts to search for clues as the bodies begin to pile up. Jill suspects the strange Professor Miles, an outcast in the community, and the vicious black cat he keeps. But how could a cat be responsible for all these deaths? Lucio Fulci’s adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Black Cat is a fairly straightforward small town murder mystery, except for the fact that it’s about a supernatural black cat that can teleport and hypnotize people. The film’s pacing is slow, and it takes a good while before any semblance of a plot begins to take shape. There isn’t a lot of gore in the film, mostly just bloody cat scratches. There is one particularly good stunt though, where a character that’s on fire jumps out of third story window before plummeting to the ground.
