Xmas Marks the Spot

On their way back from a job upstate, the Ghostbusters pass through a time slip and end up in Victorian England. Without realizing it, they wind up busting the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. After they return home, they notice that no one is celebrating Christmas and everyone is acting very Scrooge-like. To set things right and save Christmas, Egon goes into the containment unit to recover the Christmas Spirits while the rest of the guys go back through the time slip to teach Scrooge the lessons he was meant to learn. Along the way, Peter confronts his own issues with Christmas and comes to terms with some of the resentment he has towards his father. In the end, Christmas is saved and everyone raises a glass of some mysterious blue liquid that probably should have been painted another color to indicate that it was either punch or eggnog.

Fun Fact: Lorenzo Music, who did the voice for Peter Venkman, also did the voice for Garfield for many years.

Halloween II 1/2

On Halloween some goblins sneak into the Ghostbusters headquarters and bust Samhain out of the containment unit. Samhain turns the firehouse into a freaky fortress guarded by ghouls and ghosts. Will Samhain finally succeed in his quest to inflict eternal Halloween on the world? Nope. Samhain gets busted by the end of the episode, never to be seen again. This ends up being a pretty good episode of The Real Ghostbusters though. The animation quality has definitely improved since Samhain's first appearance. The voice cast has changed too, with Dave Coulier replacing Lorenzo Music in the role of Peter Venkman. Janine doesn't sound so Noo Yawk anymore and the Ghostbusters get some help from a trio of kids calling themselves the Junior Ghostbusters.

When Halloween Was Forever

Some goblins release Samhain, the pumpkin-headed spirit of Halloween, from his prison inside an ancient Irish relic. Now free in New York City, Samhain pledges to stop time and make Halloween night last forever. Can an army of ghosts and goblins fend off the Ghostbusters long enough for Samhain to spread eternal darkness across the entire world? Nope. They can, however, make a memorable episode of The Real Ghostbusters, the animated spin-off of the mega-hit movie Ghostbusters. Watching the episode now, you might find it hard to get past some of cheap animation and continuity errors, but as a child I couldn't get enough of characters like Samhain and the Boogieman.

Ghostbusters (Video Game)

A Month Of Halloweenie Reviews #28

This game, written by Harold Ramis and Dan Ackroyd and starring all the Ghostbusters from the movie, was pretty fun and hilarious. It managed to recreate the feel of Ghostbusters (the first movie, since Ghostbusters II sucks), including a lot of legitimately spooky parts in addition to all the humor and repartee we know and love. I beat this game on medium difficulty in about three evenings, so I really can't recommend buying it, but if you've got $8 to spare then you could certainly do a lot worse than renting this game.

PS - Finally done with month of Halloween reviews (never said which month it was going to be).
