Howling IV: The Original Nightmare

Not a remake or a reboot, Howling IV: The Original Nightmare is a slightly more faithful adaptation of The Howling’s original source novel. In this version, author Marie Adams heads off to a remote cabin in the woods after she experiences some strange visions. Splitting her time between trying to repair her strained marriage and helping her new friend Janice, Marie discovers that the town she’s staying in might just be full of werewolves. As far as werewolf movies go, Howling IV is pretty light on werewolves overall. I thought maybe they were skimping on werewolf footage in the movie to avoid a harsh rating but, in the third act, there’s a five minute sequence where a character’s flesh melts off into a goopy puddle. It’s gross and it goes on for a long time. Way longer than any scene in the movie that actually features a werewolf.

Rating: 40%
