As far as Star Trek fan projects go, Star Trek: Phase II is the "best," in that it has by far the best sets, special effects, and actual cameos by actors from Star Trek. However, despite having special effects a million times better than the show it homages, every episode has been a train wreck of bad writing, bad acting, and a ridiculous cutesy nature that pervaded all of Star Trek for the past decade or so. That said, the latest episode, "Blood And Fire," is actually pretty good. It's still stiff, but it accurately captures the feel of the original series. The plot is something about a disease and stranded ship, but meanwhile Kirk's nephew and his boyfriend decide to get married but it's the 23rd century so that's ok. Check this out, but avoid the other episodes in my opinion unless you want to see Sulu and Chekov played by George Takei and Walter Koenig. Fan films have certainly come a long way since I was doing stop motion animation with Legos in my basement.RATING: 68%
