I find it strange that this is such a "U.S." holiday when my relatives in Mexico don't even celebrate it. While Mexico won that battle they actually lost the war and were ruled by France and the Emperor and Empress of Mexico--Maximillian and Carlota. They are still a bit pissed that they owe his downfall to the United States.

I had to teach my Korean students about Cinco De Mayo. They didn't give a shit, which was pretty much their attitude about everything. A different textbook in the same class claimed that there were alligators in the Amazon river, which I vigorously contested. They also didn't give a shit about that.
