IMDB's Message Board

Internet message boards are rarely forums for civil discourse, but there is a special place in hell for those who lurk on the Internet Movie Database's message boards. What should be a place for film discussion is instead a haven for racist/sexist/elitist/moronic/illiterate fanboy rhetoric. No one wants to hear about your sexual fantasies regarding Hollywood starlets and your claims that George Lucas raped your childhood. Keep that shit to yourself.

What's worse, the IMDB message boards or the Youtube message boards? If a black person even shows up in the background of a video the discussion thread turns into some kind of Klan rally. It's probably a bunch of 13 year old kids acting tough, but then again, most of the internet is probably 13 year old kids acting tough.

Welcome aboard.

Glad to be here.

After my initial experiences with the IMDB boards, I pretty much decided that all internet comment threads and message boards were a waste of time. I'll read comments on blogs I like (ie: this one, John's, and Roger Ebert's) but other than that I stay away. Internet access and anonymity tend to bring out the worst in people.

Hi, Quammy. Nice to see you at R3. Americans are savages, but these ones are alright.

The commenters on Yahoo news are also horrible. What scares me is how many people out there actually believe in some sort of metaphysical/spiritual racist gnosis and the inevitability of war based on it.

Anonymity turns normal people into opinionated assholes it seems.

I read an interesting article (one that I've rambled about on here before) that used game theory to suggest that one of the reasons why religion evolved was to keep a supernatural "pair of eyes" on people when no one else was around, thus encouraging "prosocial" behaviour associated with reputational concern.

In other words, people who think God is watching them use your bathroom are less likely to dry their ass with your hand towels and root through your medicine cabinet

Hey, Quammy. I don't know you, but if Internet John vouches for you, you couldn't be anything less than a psychotic drifter. Welcome aboard! (P.S. - If anything goes wrong, just blame Chris. He isn't watching).

@VA
Don't blame Loll. Not recycling is awfully time-consuming.

Do you respond to those morons or just shake your head at the computer screen?

Are you talking about IMDB or us?

@Viking Andrew: Thanks for the welcome. I don't know what Internet John has told you, but it's all lies. Especially anything he might tell you about a certain yellow card incident.
