Dead Rising

This is precisely the kind of game that you'd think I'd love. Basically, you are stuck in a mall filled with zombies, and you can use practically every single object in the game as a weapon, from toy swords to loaves of bread to battle axes. It's as close to a video game of Dawn of the Dead that we'll ever get. In fact, on the cover there is a disclaimer that says it has nothing to do with the movie Dawn of the Dead, which in my opinion is practically an invitation for a lawsuit (which they eventually got). Anyway, the point is, the game just became boring to me after a while, probably because of the strict time limit for every goddamn mission. The game is in real time, and it assigns you several missions at once, but I don't think there's any real way you can complete them all before you run out of time, and that's really frustrating. I want to do more than just the core missions, but I always miss out. It's pretty fun I guess, but when a zombies-in-a-mall game bores me, you have to think it has problems.

The Demiurge has been using loaves of bread as weapons against me for years now. Also pizzas, chinese food and beer.

Also, I found this online re: the time limit in a review at about.com:

"The main mode, and the only one open at the beginning of the game, is the 72 Hour Mode. You have 72 hours to get your story and then be back at the helipad on the roof of the mall to be picked up. What you do in that 72 hours is completely up to you. You can follow the storyline and do the case files that pop up, or you can just kill zombies, or you can try and save as many civilians as possible, or you can do a combination of all of the above. You have to finish the case files and see the story before you unlock the other game modes, but there is plenty of fun to be had even if you never see the ending and the other modes. One thing that needs to be noted is that while the case files and storyline occur on a strict time limit and if you aren’t in the right place at the correct time you fail, you have plenty of time to get where you need to go. You aren’t supposed to save everyone, fight all of the bosses, and do the storyline all in one playthrough because it would be impossible. Focus on the story first and everything else second and the time limit isn’t a problem."
