World War II Airplanes

World War II was a pretty terrible war we can all agree, what with the Holocaust, 60 million deaths, nuclear bombs, etc. But one thing that was not terrible were all the cool planes they had. Like, woah, the P-38 Lightning (see insert). What kind of weirdo plane is that? Or maybe you heard of a little old plane called the P-51 Mustang? Hubba hubba, aircraft! Are you a fan of quickly traveling from city to city in jets, hmmm? Yowza! For any of our readers out there driving a shitty Mitsubishi Lancer, I bet it's not as cool as this Mitsubishi produced vehicle. In closing, World War II was an awful tragedy for all mankind.

The Zero was my favorite plane as a child, although I did like the Spitfire (who was the star of the Battle of Britain, even thought the Hawker Hurricane did more of the actual fighting).

Remember that Commodore 64 game, Wings of Fury? I read somewhere that the Hellcat steered like a shopping cart.

Hubba Hubba Aircraft was the name of Glenn's fifteenth high school band.

I adore the P-38 Lightning. My grandfather was in charge of keeping those running in WWII.

Also, I was cut off today by a Mitsubishi Lancer on 45 South.

World War II “wasn't” an awful tragedy for all mankind. While it was definitely hell for my family as my uncle was killed at Pearl Harbor, and millions of others, but a lot of people/companies made out like bandits--or really as war profiteers who made the engines of war like BMW, I.G. Farben, Rolls-Royce, G.E., B.P., H&K, Ford, Bayer, Mitsubishi, etc. There were many on both sides of the war, and they all made big bucks off of all that unnecessary death and destruction. That war machine also helped to lift the U.S. out of the Great Depression as the German war machine had helped curb that runaway inflation it was dealing with in the aftermath of “The War to End All Wars.”

This doesn't even begin to get into all the low level black market war profiteers who ripped off people's rations and sold them to the highest bidders while carving themselves nice fiefdoms while the true heroes fought, or worked, to keep the world safe. Those bastards either ripped off those on the home front or those suffering after the war in their decimated homelands.
