In this case, the tedium might originate in a reductive postcolonialist take on Marco Polo. About the only thing more boring than lauding Western explorers as heroes who strove to liberate the earth from the darkness of savagery is dismissing them all as imperialist egomaniacs who stained the pristine panties of the unadulterated non-Western world with the blood of the perfectly innocent.
