I haven't seen this one yet. Is it more or less fucked up than the original The Hills Have Eyes?

rape scene

It's fucked up for different reasons. They both make me feel pretty bad watching them.

Why does every horror movie have to have a rape scene these days? That is so fucked up. And it normalizes rape to teens, which is also fucked up. I hate you, crappy writers who rely on shock value in lieu of talent. I hope you burn in hell with that dumb bitch Ayn Rand.

Sorry about that last part, I've been really hating Ayn Rand lately. Greed is not a virtue!

To be fair, this was probably the original horror rape movie, if that counts for something?

Uh, except for Virgin Spring, the Bergman movie it was based on, and the 13th century Swedish ballad that was based on.

According to that old hat, we should get rid of horror movies altogether. since we don't want to "normalize" cannibalism, serial killing, stabbing. shooting, burning, strangling, exposure to human guts, satanic ritual, etc.

Exposure to media violence and actual incidence of violent behavior including rape are correlated, but it's not as simple as a straightforward causal or normative relationship between the two.

I'll be more worried when my daughters ask to watch Legally Blonde or Mona Lisa Smile.

Ayn Rand sucks.

If anyone here has actually read a book by Rand, s/he ought to review it. It'd even be timely, what with all the press she's been getting on Mad Men lately.

Well, maybe "attention" would be a better term.

Yeah, the rape "scene" is this movie was like a half hour long. I wasn't really watching, but every time I checked in there was rape to spare.

Laurie, I heard a talk this summer that quoted no less than 10 rape scenes from contemporary lit works. Rape does not equal automatic gravitas. Ew.

Hey, Glenn, when are you going to get around to finishing your top film countdown? I'd like to know where that Nicole Kidman masterpiece, "BMX Bandits," ranks. There's no rape scene in it, but plenty of cool 1980's Australian lingo, rad bikes, and a spunky young N. Kidman with really big 80's hair.

John from Daejon, how'd you find out what my number 1 movie was going to be?
