Retro Mini Handheld NES System
So normally I try not to review things with which I have no experience but I NEED SOMEONE TO BUY ME THIS RIGHTNOW. I am salivating at the prospect of being reunited with Adventure Island, Yo Noid!, and that game where you competed in Olympic events as Snoopy. There's a reason none of these gamed ever made it to Xbox!

Ask and you shall receive, Loco. Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas. =)
(You're on your own when it comes to games, though.)
Ya'll don't have a an old NES still hanging around?
We have ours hooked up right next to the Xbox360 for whenever the hankering for classic gaming hits us.
My cousin sent me a classic NES for my birthday last year and it is probably the sweetest gift I've ever received. He also sent all the coolest games from the 90s. Yeah, who's got a gold Zelda. I do, that's who.
O YEAH! I was way jealous watching Laurie play her classic NES. I had one at home forever, but it did not work at ALL anymore. My boyfriend has one but it's not hooked up. Maybe I'll see what I can do about that...
Surely the save battery on the gold Zelda is dead by now, right?
Adventure Island is the shit.
@Belabras: Nope, still works like a charm. Beating Zelda was the first thing I did when I got the NES out of the box.
Laurie, did you ever beat Zelda II: The Adventure of Link? That had to be one of the toughest, most frustrating sons-of-bitches I've ever played. I have it on GameBoy SP (part of the Nintendo Classics collection), but I still haven't beaten it.
I remember Super Mario 2 having a cool ending, even though that game should NOT have been a Mario game (and wasn't, originally).
I didn't beat ALL the games I owned. I'm sad to say I never beat Double Dragon or the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (though I beat the 2nd one), and I only beat Mike Tyson once in my entire life. I had trouble landing the stupid plane on Top Gun, too. I was always proud when I beat a Metroid game, a Mega Man game, Contra (had to play with a friend and use the Konami code) a Mario Game, or Bionic Commando (possibly my favorite game I owned on the NES).
Super Mario 2's ending sucks big time! Like, I did all that work and it was just a dream with no consequence to Mario's life? F that s.
I beat the original Double Dragon in the arcade. You've got to fight player 2 for possession of player 1's girlfriend after the final boss. Feminism?
All I could remember about Mario 2's ending is that it looked good, and it was an actual ending, as opposed to just starting the game over or something. I'm sort of glad that game didn't have any consequence to Mario's life, given how odd and never-should-have-existed-ish that game is.
The only games I can remember beating in the arcade were X-Men (why didn't they ever make a home version of that game?) and Terminator 2. Both games required myself and a friend playing. There were probably more I (or we) beat, but those are the ones that leap to mind.
The Double Dragon ending sounds delightful. =\ Really not surprising I guess, given the fact that the first shot of that game is that girlfriend being punched in the stomach.
I come back to Bionic Commando, which had about as gruesome of an ending on a NES game as I've ever seen. A Hitler-esque ruler gets resurrected, only to have his head exploded by yours truly.
Really satisfying endings didn't come around until the 16-bit systems, now that I think about it. Super Metroid is probably still my favorite.
Now I have to go beat Mario 2 so I can see the ending. Is there a save feature on that, tho? I don't know if I have the patience to play it all in one sitting. Also, anyone who loves me can get me Dragon Warrior and/or Gauntlet for my birthday, which is in August.
Also @Tim re: Zelda II: No, but now I really, really want to.
