The Wolfman

Essentially a remake of the 1941 classic, The Wolfman stars Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt and Hugo Weaving. While this movie was far from perfect, they did well in not trying to update the story with a modern day setting. The Wolfman got an R rating for violence, which I believe is a first for a Universal Monster movie, but even though I'm a fan of violence in horror movies, I thought that some of the gore in this movie bordered on absurdity. Also, a lot of the CGI effects were pretty craptacular. All in all, it's not bad but it's not great either. It should hold you over until the Creature from the Black Lagoon remake comes out.

Rating: 67%

Is that a Canadian 67% or an American 67%?

Dammit, I was going to review this movie. I must love violence more than you because I would give it WAY more than 67%. Wolfman was an 80% easy. Not only was the violence very entertaining, but the acting was pretty spankin good (unsurprising given the cast), and the story wasn't half bad either. (Full disclosure, had no idea there was a "1941 classic.") But then again, this is coming from the loser who gave Underworld: Rise of the Lycans a whopping 86%. What can I say, I loves me warewolf fightin.

I never get tired of pointing this out: in Canada, 67% is a solid C. An American 80% is somewhere between C+ and B-. You guys probably liked it almost the same, but with different granularities.

It's been pointed out to me that my review comes across as being pretty harsh on the movie. While I did enjoy the movie, I just couldn't get past some of the movie's faults. Full disclosure: I hate CGI effects, pretty much across the board. Also, there seemed to be more than a few gaps in the story, which is no surprise since they took 17 minutes out of the movie for the theatrical cut. I just think it could have been a better movie.

Shut the fuck up. The zero G Klingon blood at the beginning of Star Track VI: Knee Testicles was like the only cool thing about Star Track ever.

BTW, my wife is making the trek to Canada tomorrow. I'm stoked to watch porn at 3 in the afternoon.

Gonna take more than an antivirus program to protect you from the CGI licker at the end of Resident Evil.

I'm surprised that my insinuation that Laurie was way into horror themed role playing games in high school went unnoticed.

I only read comments from white people.

Glenn, everyone knows that is not true. Obviously I am too cool for role playing games. Psh.

Oh, I also forgot to add that when I saw this there was more than one child in the theater. I'm talking under 10, child. Clearly not appropriate for a movie with more than one gory disemboweling.

@laurie

I still haven't seen Avatar and probably won't be seeing it anytime soon. I never saw Titanic either. I guess I haven't seen a James Cameron flick since True Lies.

Well hats off to you, Quammy for not seeing Avatar. I wanted to hold out but my dad wanted to see it with me and well, he's my dad.
