The Screen at JerryWorld

Ever wonder how big the biggest HD TV in the world is? Me neither. But I'll tell you: over 2,000 square feet. That is, roughly the size of an average exurban home (for the sake of comparison, those white thingies on the field are semi-trucks). The screen hangs above the field at JerryWorld, and in typical Dallas Cowboys (Texas) fashion, the stadium, like the screen, is the biggest and baddest; with a price tag somewhere around $ 1.5 billion, it (the stadium; the screen cost a mere 40 mil) is one of the most expensive sports complexes ever built. Is this Idiocracy? No. It's the Cowboys, baby.

  1. Video, complete with Jerry Jones awkward audio.

  2. A true modern marvel.

I sat with some very nice older folks this evening at a wedding dress rehearsal dinner. They're from Frisco and somehow know Jerry Jones. I've got to say it was the most fun I've had with a couple 50 year olds in a long time.

I wish I had the money to see the first game in the new stadium.

  3. What was that thing I said that time about why guys in Texas need everything to be big?

  4. @ Laurie

Texas guys need things to be big to complement the size of their brains.

  6. I dunno, I hooked up with a Houston native the other day and well, let's just say I still stand by my theory.

  7. @Chris,

Yeah, it's impractical to actually attend a Cowboys game in the new stadium. What I'm thinking, though, is to attend some other event there--Chelsea FC plays some Mexican soccer team next month. That way, I can experience the new stadium without paying a ridiculous amount of dough.

Speaking of ridiculous amounts of dough, have you heard all the problems surrounding the abortion that is the new Yankees stadium?

  8. @Laurie,

    False Authority.

    You're two for two now.

  9. Whatever, I still believe it. Also, for all the obscene amount of money they spent on Yankee stadium, I hear it's pretty awe inspiring.

  10. Yes, it is. The stadium (Yankee) is gorgeous. It has some potentially serious technical issues, though.

  11. That's really funny. It's almost like they didn't know they would be playing baseball there. I really need to get over there for a game one of these days.

  12. Yeah, it could be a serious issue this season. The new Yankee stadium is beautiful, but it's less of a ballpark than the old one.

If there was ever one nice thing I'd say about the Yankees was that their old stadium was a true ballpark.

I guess it was a matter of time before NY sold its team out, too. Maybe I'm being too harsh, they did keep the outfield dimensions exactly the same.

  13. Fact-check:
The screen is not 2,000 square feet. It's 25,000 square feet.

  15. A double sided screen...wow! No one will be looking at the action on the field.

  16. I was always totally bored when I went to watch Yankee games. I wish I had had a big screen to look at. And I wish that big screen had been playing Veronica Mars (the episode with Viking Andrew's cousin!!).

I hear the CitiField has a Shake Shack!! That might be enough to get me to stop mourning Shea Stadium...
